Doing the restoration work gives me a good bit of practise for doing MOT work :)

Most MOT patches from garages etc seem to be a random steel plate stuck over a roughly cut hole and mostly welded in place with a coat of black tar over the top, any rot beneath is generally ignored which results in it growing and causing issues in the not too distant future..

I try to keep the rust at bay.. all rust cut out, even the stuff you can't see.. prime example is sill repairs, outer sill rusts and is picked up on MOT .. I will cut out the outer sill, this usually exposes inner sill problems, I will then cut that out and repair before repairs to outer sill. This is important as the inner sill is where seatbelts are mounted and where a lot of the strength of suspension mounts come from.. A shiny black patch on your sill means little if the inside is ignored!
